I've seen the idea of the quote in the game Mirror's Edge as well, in a sense - it went something like: "We'll survive; it's what we do." "Survival is overrated. You've got to live a little, too."
^_^ On the tree, it makes me wonder if the message is supposed to come from the 'viewpoint' of the tree, or that of the assumed writer -- is the tree a prop, or a speaker? But then again, I guess for a plant surviving is just about the extent of living, as far as I can picture it... Anyways, I think the fact that it inspires thought is another strong point of this piece!
My dad told me that this morning when we were going for a run. I was going ungodly slow, and told him I was just trying to survive... and he screamed, "I don't want to survive, I just want to live!!" And sprinted away. We'd already done 5 miles at that point. I was pretty much dead. So I stopped and went back to the car.
Oh he was really good about it, he gave me a high five and we just left. He didn't give me any grief or anything haha. I'm the unathletic daughter, so he's used to it If he had taken my sister with him, they probably would have done ten or eleven miles, but for me it's a struggle to get anything more than three.
Hah yeah? That's good, where I live they are starting to cut down all the trees and are replacing them with roads and even trees around houses are being removed by the city, even little cherry trees and tiny trees, it is really annoying because everything is going from beautiful to dull and boring. It's kinda depressing really.
I'd rather see a forest from a distance than an empty unused parking lot any day ahaha.
